Tutorial Title: Photovoltaic Power Generation Systems: Topologies, Control, Industrial Trends, and Future Challenges
Presenters: Samir Kouro (Chile); Dmitri Vinnikov (Estonia); Yongheng Yang (Denmark); Andrii Chub (Estonia, Chile)
Continuous cost reduction of photovoltaic (PV) systems and rise of power auctions resulted in establishing of PV power as not only green energy source but also cost-effective solutions for the electricity generation market. Nowadays, commercial solutions for PV systems are available at any power level. This tutorial will then introduce configurations of PV power generation systems and power electronic solutions for each of them. The wide-scale adoption of renewable energy results in inertia reduction in power systems. This challenge is addressed through national grid codes and new active power control methods that will be presented. In addition, power electronic solutions for small commercial and residential systems and their control will be covered, including building integrated PV. Theoretical topics will be illustrated with industrial examples where possible. The tutorial will be concluded with a detailed product design example based on technology transfer experience from academia to industry. The tutorial will be interesting for researchers from different applications as well as practicing engineers.
