Tutorial Title: Digital control of grid-tied converters – A Test-Driven Design Approach

Presenters: Fernanda Carnielutti (Brazil); Rodrigo Padilha (Brazil)

In this practically oriented tutorial, you shall learn how to design and validate the different controllers required for the proper operation of grid-tied converters using real-time simulation in Typhoon HIL. Whenever possible, standards and grid codes requisites will be used to compare the performance of the controllers as well as the impact of their parameters.

The development teams of GEPOC-UFSM and Typhoon HIL have joined efforts to demonstrate the potential of test-driven design, and the results is compiled in this tutorial course. The tutorial will approach voltage-source converter (VSC) controllers design through its basic elements from modulation for different converter topologies to MPPT algorithms. Many real time simulations with Typhoon HIL will be presented, and made available to the attendees this tutorial, to demonstrate the performance of the controllers under normal and critical operating conditions.
