Tutorial Title: Advanced Three-Phase SiC/GaN PWM Inverter Topologies for Future VSD Applications
Presenters: Johann Kolar (Switzerland); Mattia Guacci (Switzerland)
Different known and new converter topologies, concerning power conversion efficiency, electromagnetically silent (EMS) and power density of power electronics systems using SiC and GaN power devices, will be analysed in the proposed tutorial and comparatively evaluated against standard industry solutions, highlighting advantages and drawbacks of each concept. Moreover, all the discussed analytical models and circuit simulations will be substantiated by design considerations and experimental results obtained on hardware demonstrators employing latest SiC/GaN semiconductor technology. In particular, after the introduction constituting Part I, three-phase voltage-DC-link inverters employing different types of output filters are described in Part II. Multi-level and double-bridge topologies are discussed in Part III, while phasemodular and integrated three-phase current DC-link inverters are presented in Part IV and V. In Part VI, selected inverter concepts are investigated for active front-end/PFC rectifier application, before the conclusions in Part VII, which should develop into an open discussion.
